FREE MUSIC FRIDAYS @ the MANDEVILLE TRAILHEAD
Starting April 11th and continuing for 8 consecutive Friday evenings, the Trailhead Foundation and the Backbeat Foundation will present “Free Music Fridays” at the Mandeville Trailhead. This music series is geared towards bringing a quality family cultural experience to the Northshore.
With the onset of springtime weather Free Music Fridays will offer an enjoyable and affordable way to spend a Friday evening. The musical line-up includes: Five Finger Discount, Four Unplugged, Pine Leaf Boys Trio, Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas, Maggie Brown, Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes, AsheSon Cuban Band, The Iguanas, 30 x 90 Blues Band, The Stringbeans, Amanda Shaw & the Cute Guys, Paula and the Pontiacs, Christian Serpas and Ghost Town, Paul Sanchez & the Rolling Road Show, Robert Fortune Band, and Big Sam's Funky Nation.
The venue gates will open at 5:30pm with the opening musical act starting at 6:00pm and the headliner starting at 7:00pm. Please feel free to bring Lawn chairs, blankets, cameras, and children are all welcome. Sorry- no outside food or drink allowed. Concessions sales keep it free. See you at the Mandeville Trailhead!

The Mandeville Trailhead: The Trailhead is integral to providing the citizens and visitors of the City of Mandeville, and users of the Tammany Trace, a historical, environmental, and cultural interpretive center. The Trailhead helps to enrich the community, increase environmental awareness, offer educational opportunities and provide an arena for special events. The Mandeville Trailhead Foundation is a 501-c-3, non-profit corporation overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors that works in tandem with the city to develop programming and exhibits, and provide day-to-day operations of the facility. 2nd Annual Mardi Gras Funkstravaganza
Funkstravaganza. The 2008 Mardi Gras Funkstravaganza is the second annual and celebrates Carnival at the Blue Nile on renowned Frenchmen Street in the vibrant Faubourg Marigny section of New Orleans. The 2008 Mardi Gras Funkstravaganza will feature an array of local musical acts drawing from our richly talented area. This year's Funkstravaganza is sure to become the party destination for Mardi Gras revelers and music lovers alike. The 2008 Mardi Gras Funkstravaganza schedule will span from February 1st to 5th, 2008. Each event in the series will offer a cultural and entertainment experience full of Mardi Gras spirit and definitely unique to New Orleans.

Get ready for a night of rootsy rock and deep funk as these two bands take the stage. Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes are on hand to dish out energy of 1980s Fishbone with Deep South soul on Thursday, 10.25.2007, at the Balcony Music Club. To round this show out, Adam Deitch, Ian Neville, Nick Daniels and Big Sam Williams will offer up their version of funk. Big Sam hails from Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Neville and Daniels are both from Dumpstaphunk, while Deitch has played with such notable musicians as Justin Timberlake, Wycleff, Slick Rick, John Medeski and many others. Be sure to be there for a funk’n rock’n kind of night!
Rhythmic Roots Community Music Project
The Backbeat Foundation is currently co-sponsoring the Rhythmic Roots: Community Music Project. Rhythmic Roots is intent on creating collaborations that bring the community and the music together.
The fusing of various New Orleans musical elements is a core concept in bringing the community together through music.
